The Muckers Coterie is the UCSB campus geology club that seeks to assimilate incoming undergraduates of the earth sciences into the department and, in general, the study of geology in and out of the field. The club was established decades ago but had lost its prowess for many years in the new millennium, so we are now working to revive the mission along with the support of the earth science department. As so, we plan to administer a trip that is deemed traditional to the earth science graduates and faculty that will provide the students with a welcoming environment to form alliances with geoscientists of the future. Under the guidance of UCSB Professor Emeritus James Boles, we will introduce the significant geology of Santa Cruz Island that can provide a better understanding to the greater Western Transverse Range geology. The visit will not only allow the undergraduates to become familiar with the local geology, but also become familiar with how to conduct one's self accordingly on natural reserve land.
