Santa Cruz Island Reserve

Students will mainly be hiking, on Friday we will hike to Pelican Bay before going to the reserve. On Saturday students will hike to Coches Prietos and in the evening discuss two papers detailing the collapse of the native island fox by golden eagles. On Sunday we will pack, clean and head to the boat. Students will betaking pictures of native plants on their hike to Coches on Saturday. They will be aware of the endangered and endemic species and will be reminded not to disturb any flora/ fauna. If vehicles are available, I would like to bring the students out to the west end to Christie Beach (historical to see where it is, we are reading TC Boyle's "When the Killing's Done")/ Sauces Canyon / Pozo beach (for the rocks: Vaqueros formation and the San Onofre breccia). All the west end activities depend on vehicle availability - I have not been out there in several years and may need help figuring out exactly where I need to go.
