From August 6 - 8, 2014 Wishtoyo/Pitzer Native American Pipeline To College Summer Ocean Field Study at Santa Cruz Island requests a reservation to stay at the UCReserv Station on the nights of August 6 and 7, 2014 with departure from Santa Cruz Island on August 8th. We'll be traveling from the Ventura Harbor via Island Packers. During our stay our activities will include, swimming, hiking, snorkeling, and field study of Island ecology, oceanography, culture, ocean acidification, Channel Islands National Marine Sanctuary and Parks biodiversity. The participants of this program are California Native American inter-tribal youth ages 14-17 many of whom come from underserved communities. All of these students have demonstrated the desire to attend college to study the sciences and simultaneously maintain a close relationship with their tribal cultural practices and communities. Our program assists them in becoming better prepared to enter college and provides a network of support to foster college success.
