Santa Cruz Island Reserve

When we arrive, we will send the gear to the reserve and make lunch at the beach at Prisoners. We will hike the pelican Bay trail with the students and head back to the reserve once we are done. We will bring the students back to the reserve and have a discussion after dinner about how the golden eagles almost wiped out the island fox due to hyperpredation. On Saturday morning, we will hike out to Coches Prietos. When we get back there will be an optional hike to the water hole (or the option for students to study). Saturday evening we will have a discussion comparing the flora of Catalina Island to Santa Cruz Island, focusing specifically on how their geographic location, geologic history, and human history have impacted both islands. On Sunday we will get up, clean, and head back to the mainland.
