Santa Cruz Island Reserve

I plan to bring a class of Earth Science graduate students and faculty for a field trip to the Santa Cruz reserve. I estimate there will be ~ 20 of us participating, total. We would like to cover a fairly wide region, examining evidence for recent faulting and tectonic uplift, look at bedrock geology of a number of different rock units, and in general get a good overview of the geology of the island. The central location of the UCSB reserve station is ideal for our purpose. This visit is part of a 4-day introductory field trip for incoming graduate students in our department and thus is designed to cover a wide range of topics in the Earth Sciences. The class will continue in the fall quarter with topics in the subject of geology of the western Transverse ranges.
