Santa Cruz Island Reserve

We propose to continue our study of the reproductive ecology of island scrub-jays. This will be the fourth year of the project. Fieldwork will start in mid-February and continue through the fledging period in late June. Michelle Desrosiers (Master's student at Colorado State University) will lead the field crew this year. She will be joined by four technicians, Colin Woolley, Sinead Borchert, Nora Livingston, and Courtenay Ray). Colin and Sinead have both worked on the island before. Fieldwork will involve nest searching and monitoring, measuring jay behavior, capturing and banding jays, and in collaboration with Dr. Walter Boyce at UC Davis, vaccinating fledglings against West Nile Virus. Scott Sillett and Cameron Ghalambor plan to visit the island in April.
