Santa Cruz Island Reserve

The purpose of my visit is to observe stand dynamics in a couple forest stands near the UC field station. I am a graduate student focusing mainly in ecology and geography and conduct my research in SE Alaska. I have been trying to spend time in certain forest areas here in California to gain experience in observing and classifying dynamics. I have also been working with Kevin O'Hara at Berkeley, and my main advisor at Stanford is Eric Lambin. A biologist colleague who worked on Santa Cruz island in a restoration project suggested that I try to visit your site. I would simply take notes in my field notebook based on observations. I would walk on the dirt roads, staying at Del Norte Campground. I will be with one other student and we will be well prepared with topo map, water etc. The grove I would like to find is approximately 0.5 km from the UC field station. I anticipate only 5 or so hours on the TNC property and minimal to no disturbance (just four feet walking). We do not need any housing or support. I hope you are able to grant this approval.
