Santa Cruz Island Reserve

We will be conducting fieldwork as part of a general inventory and monitoring study of Santa Cruz Island. Our main focus during this week will be amphibians and reptiles (first half of trip) and bats (second half of trip). All work is extensive over the island, and we expect to access areas from the isthmus to the west end. The amphibian and reptile work will be primarily visual surveys, with minimal impact to the areas visited. Bat surveys will include acoustic surveys (from fixed points where bats are expected, and from along roads, from a vehicle) as well as mist-netting over water. All captures will be catch-and-release. No collecting is planned, except in the case of incidental mortalities, or individuals found dead. Dorm housing and a vehicle are needed, if available. Note on housing: though 5 people are listed below, only 3 will be on the island at a time - Drost and Persons will be on island for the first half, leaving 29 September; Corben and Matthews will arrive for the second half of the period, on the 29th.
