Santa Cruz Island Reserve

We will be sampling beetles, for phylogeographic work and to continuing to expand our general inventory of Channel Islands beetles. There are several beach and dune beetle species for which we have not yet attained sufficient samples: Coelus pacificus, Hypocaccus lucidulus, Thinopinus pictus, and Hadrotes crassus; a couple freshwater species: Anacaena signaticollis and Stictotarsus striatellus; and a couple of terrestrial species: Phloeodes plicatus and Nyctoporis carinata. In addition to targeting appropriate habitats for these species, we will target leaf litter habitats for general survey work. These are seriously under-surveyed, and will be very interesting to compare with samples taken on Santa Rosa Island last year.
