Santa Cruz Island Reserve

The purpose of this course is to provide students with hands on experience conducting biological field research. In this course students are expected to work in groups of three to come up with and execute their own research idea. The instructor and TA with help them hone their ideas and methods. The students will have one week before coming to the island to learn about it an its biota and propose potential projects. Once on the island they will need to spend time making preliminary observations to confirm or revise these ideas. As such, the areas and populations impacted cannot be known in advance and any of the answers given below are things that may or may not be done, depending on the projets. Projects will be limited to non-sensitive areas and species, and we are happy to seek approval of the staff before initiating any projects. The projects are necessarily short lived and small in scope and tend to have limited impact.
