Santa Cruz Island Reserve

We will journey to SCI so that students (estimated 25-35 individuals) in the Channel Islands course can gain firsthand experience of the islands. I ran a similar course in summer 2001. If possible, we would like to use the dorms again, but we could tent if necessary. We would go on group hikes at Prisoner's Harbor and around the field station. We would also like to use the jeeps again to travel around the island to see a variety of vegetation communities (from the Field Station to Christy Beach). Our impact would be minimal - no manipulations or collections or introductions. I would like the students to have the opportunity to key out plant species using Junak et al., and we can discuss how to do this in the way that has the least impact and avoids rare species. Please let me know if a travel grant is available to reduce the cost for the students.
