Santa Cruz Island Reserve

The purpose of the research is to conduct limited testing of selected rock shelter sites on the west end of the island as part of my dissertation research to document early maritime coastal hunter-gatherer sites in an effort to advance research for the coastal migration hypothesis for the initial human colonization of the New World. Small-scale testing including bucket augering will recover appropriate material for radio carbon dating as well as cultural material for analysis. We will need to stay at Christy's Ranch for the duration of the trip.
