Santa Cruz Island Reserve

This preliminary activity will not involve any disturbance to cultural resources. No samples will be taken. This trip is intended to determine where samples should be taken for a proposed PhD research project. The proposed research project will focus on macrobotanical remains (charred plant seeds) in archaeological sites. Samples will be taken from mutliple sites located in different resource zones on Santa Cruz Island. Soil samples will then be processed through a flotation machine, and botanical remains will be analyzed under a dissecting microscope. This trip will only involve survey; samples will not be taken until May 2007.
