Daily Ecology Lessons will be conducted with the students: Monday lesson will be outdoors at a nearby location and will include an introduction to the islands ecosystem, 'history of Island management/ownership' lesson will be conducted indoors* closer to evening. Tuesday outdoor lesson will include a short hike to learn about impact of fennel and pigs on native species. Indoor* lesson will be about Island Management to control nonnative species. Wednesday will be an all day hike to a location where students will collect measurements using transects (either at a currently established site or at another location where fennel presence can be compared with another location on the following day). Thursday- Morning will involve follow-up data collection and afternoon will involve a local hike and reflecting on field journaling. -Locations of transects to be determined following discussion with L.Laughrin to limit disturbance to island. -*Classroom area needed during indoor lessons. -No samples will be collected and all precautions will be taken to stay on trails and previously abandoned research sites.
