UCI - Burns Pinon Ridge Reserve

Collect and photograph caterpillars. Post trip notes: The wildflowers were terrific. Our clan waxed and waned between three and fifteen people: friends, students, colleagues, film crew. Not especially productive (season delayed by about two weeks due to cold temps), but a great trip nonetheless--abundant laughter and learning: two of the best anecdotes for the stresses of academia. It was very slim pickings…but we got enough to make the trip worthwhile. The drought was also in play. Takes an insect fauna 3-6 years to recover from a drought/megadrought…although I imagine some species never recover and the new fauna is just different.
