Coal Oil Point Natural Reserve

We are setting 30 Sherman traps in a loop around the main path at Coal Oil Point Reserve. These traps baited with oats and peanut butter, and are designed to trap small mammals including, but not limited to, mice and voles. These traps are placed with the intention of catching animals to demonstrate trapping and handling methods to students in EEMB 113L (Vertebrate Zoology). After checking each trap and releasing the animals, we will also walk around COPR to bird. Our primary route for this activity will be the ocean viewing area by the Cliff House, the Snowy Plover nesting habitat, and the Pond Trail by Devereux Slough. In the afternoon, the traps will be baited again for the next class.
