Bodega Marine Laboratory and Reserve

Friday afternoon, we will visit the mudflats, usually outside the Reserve area so as not to disturb any experiments there. We collect, using my CDFG Scientific Collecting permit, various invertebrates (mostly annelids) that we examine in lab. In this area, the students examine the diversity of phyla and organisms in this initially barren environment. Saturday morning, we visit the Harbor (with permission of the Harbor Master) to examine the fouling communities. Again, these organisms are examined in lab, where we eat lunch. In the afternoon, we run transects through the rocky intertidal, look at organisms density, abundance and distribution. Sunday morning, the group will hike to Mussel Point and or to Salmon Creek Beach (to examine the sandy intertidal). We will pack up our things and head home after the hike.
