I plan to observe, photograph, and video record the wetlands durationally, over the course of my multiple visits and at different times of the day through field seminars. Simply put, these field seminars would be one-on-one masked and socially distant tours of specific habitats at the reserve and specific studies ongoing at the lab. I am particularly interested in the reserve’s freshwater wetlands, upland coastal scrub, saltmarshes, as well as the mudflats and sandflats. I already have confirmation from Dr. Stachowicz’s first-year graduate students, Karolina Zabinksi and Claire Murphy, that they will each act as a field seminar guide and will each give me a tour of different BML wetland habitats at the reserve. The tours will also enable on-site interviews to collect individual wetland stories and to collate two key sets of knowledge for the public: 1) the basic types of wetlands/estuarial areas—how to discern and separate them as well as how to understand the reproductive capacities of flora and fauna in such habitats, and 2) to render translatable particular wetland/estuarial research, including seagrass beds, as well as to provide better comprehension of the legal and scientific consequences for wetlands during our current climate crisis.
