The purpose of this field expedition is to continue work on establishing a functioning flow-through Free Ocean Carbon Enrichment system on a pristine coral reef such that we can monitor chemical variability to compare with modeled results and previous baseline results found on island in years past. Initial work in designing a usable and efficient system by using the Brando Resort’s deep-sea SWAC water to extract CO2 and transfer it onto the coral reef has already been completed. We will be adding to this foundation by creating a higher flow of more concentrated CO2 in a semi-permanent flume structure assembled on island. By using various chemistry monitoring techniques, we can understand how the carbonate system will change in a more acidified environment.
