Tetiaroa Society Ecostation

Our aim is to establish forest inventory plots on various motu on Tetiaroa to obtain baseline information about tropical forest tree community assemblages and biodiversity. Within each plot, each tree will be tagged, identified to species, measured by diameter at breast height and the coordinates of the tree will be recorded. Sites will be randomized, and stratified according disturbance regime and forest ecotype at each site. Plots on Tetiaria will probably be of 0.25 ha size. We intend to sample a range of disturbance and invasion histories and will compare this data to plots on Moorea and across the globe as part of the Global Ecosystem Monitoring project, which is exploring tropical forest ecology in relation to environmental change.
