La Kretz Center for California Conservation Science

The main focus of my MS thesis is to examine the effects of urbanization on populations of Blainville's horned lizard at a local and a regional scale. The bulk of my fieldwork will take place in the Santa Monica Mountains and Simi Hills, where I will estimate genetic diversity and connectivity of remaining populations in land fragments of this mountain range. If I find that roadways are effective barriers to gene flow, I will be able to provide this information to land managers to determine the best strategies for management of this sensitive species. The La Kretz Center is perfectly situated for fieldwork in the Santa Monica Mountains, which will greatly facilitate my field sampling in the spring of 2018.
