Two recent outbreaks of pink lesions on the
massive coral Porites spp. in Moorea, French
Polynesia motivated my questions about the
prevalence, spatial patterns with respect to human
impacts, and the relative importance of causative
agents (trematode or barnacle) of this species-
species interaction. My overall objective is to
identify what species of trematode parasites and
encapsulated barnacles cause Porites pink
lesions.
