During this activity we will be opening our 10 pitfall arrays. The traps will be open for 5 days and checked on a daily basis. On the fifth day traps will be closed so no other animals can be captured. Some animals will be temporarily disturbed if they should fall into a trap. All captured animals will be weighed, measured, sexed, and released upon discovery. Some lizards and snakes will have tissue taken from them (tails tip, scale or toe clips)for genetic studies as well as recapture identification. Mammals will have a small amount of hair clipped to determine if animal is a recap or not. No species will be introduced to the site. During this sample we will also set up 18 Sherman traps at each array. These traps will catch small mammals. Any mammal captured will be weighed, measured, sexed and hair clipped.
