Elliott Chaparral Reserve

Recent observations indicate that Mojave yuccas (Yucca schidigera) in the San Diego area are pollinated by a different species of yucca moth (Tegeticula sp.) than is found in the rest of the range. Work on other Yucca- Yucca moth mutualisms indicates that different Yucca moth species are often associated with divergent floral morphology. This observation suggests that yucca moths may drive divergent evolution in their yucca host plants. I wish to collect preliminary data to test this hypothesis. I will collect: no more than 20 Y. schidigera flowers, no more than 20 Y. schidigera leaf tissue samples, and no more than 50 yucca moths associated with Y. schidigera.I will park my car at the site- Licence plate Idaho 1L 87661
